The Role: Reporting to the Customer Insight & Audience Director, we are looking for someone to deliver audience insight to inform News UK TV and Video strategy. This includes market, product, content and marketing insight. This will include developing and delivering a plan of research, comprising industry performance data (such as BARB), market analysis using third party data and bespoke commissioned qualitative and quantitative projects You will have line management responsibility for the Insight Manager (Wireless) and will therefore have overall responsibility for all Audience Measurement & Insight across TV, Video and Wireless.

Day to day you will:

  • Develop (in consultation with the senior leadership team and key stakeholders) a roadmap of broadcast insight activity and have overall responsibility for delivering against the roadmap
  • Take overall responsibility for managing the Broadcast Insight Budget, which includes both TV/Video and Wireless
  • Deliver TV / Video audience insight & consumer research projects to inform strategy, proposition, programming, presenter line-up etc.
  • Represent News UK in relevant industry forums e.g. Barb, RAJAR
  • Manage key supplier relationships and contract negotiations to extract maximum value for the business
  • Work with Training and with the Audience Measurement Director to ensure broadcast stakeholders are fully trained on all relevant systems to better enable self serve e.g. Telmar, TGI, Wavelength, Knowhow etc.

What we’re looking for from you:

We are looking for someone who has experience of TV, video and broader media research. Experience or knowledge of radio would be advantageous, as you will be line managing an Insight Manager who will be responsible for Insight for the Wireless brands. You will have proven experience with a wide range of research techniques, including creation of quantitative surveys, analysis of data and working with qualitative research methodology, managing research projects from end to end.

  • You will possess strong people management skills, as we need you to bring out the best in your team, coach and develop them
  • The ability to apply research results to a problem and an ability to build a narrative using a variety of data sources.
  • To be able to think imaginatively and creatively about the issues facing the TV and online video sector.
  • To have initiative; as timelines can be tight, in order to deliver we often need to be working on projects before clients themselves realise that they need it.
  • Capable of multitasking, delivering at pace, working to tight deadlines and managing key stakeholder relationships
  • A passion for people, with an ability to bring target audiences to life and demonstrate their importance to the decision-making process. Including an understanding of how to relate consumer needs to business issues.
  • Detailed knowledge of audience measurement currencies and proprietary and industry research, tools and associated systems (e.g. RAJAR, Barb, pamco, ipsos, TGI, Telmar, Wavelength, Google Analytics, Tableau, Qualtrics etc.)
  • A good networker and influencer - both internally and externally
  • Excellent knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and approaches
  • An ability to work collaboratively to get the best out of our research agency partners
  • Accuracy and numeracy - must possess excellent QA skills and have an eye for detail
